Show SOCIETY NEVS Frank, Edward and John Schwartz and the latter's son, Lewis, of Flemingsburg, Ky-, 1 were in Springville several days , this week to attend funeral services ser-vices for their brother, Thomas Schwartz, held Monday. The brothers will be accompanied home this week by the mother, Mrs. Jennie Schwartz, also of Flemingsburg, who has been here several weeks because of the illness ill-ness of her son. Gloria Bird of Midvale, is spending a few days with her grandparents, Mr. and Mis. vv. A. Bird. Members of the Book of Mormon Mor-mon club held another of its regular Sunday evening socials after the band concert Sunday night, with Joseph Olsen and Matt Olsen acting has hosts. The group enjoyed the time with a brief discussion of the Book of Mormon together with general sociability. At the conclusion oi the evening's entertainment, tasty refreshments were served. l lloiso. Miss Lucille Adams planned to leave the past week end for San Lhego, Calif., on an indefinite visit. Miss Fern Ostler and Miss Virginia Vir-ginia Simldns were to leave on Saturday for a two weeks' vacation vaca-tion in California. They planned to spend a short time at the world's fair in San Francisco and to also visit friends in Los A ngeles. The C. C. S. 4-H cuio held its last meeting of the season this week at the home of Miss Melba Smith. At the conclusion of the social, dainty refreshments were served from tables centered with vases of sweet peas and arranged about the spacious and attractive garden gar-den of the Smart home. Approximately Approx-imately 28 class members and guests atlended. Mrs. Zina Crandall and her daughter, Miss Eva Crandall, have just returned from an enjoyable en-joyable five weeks' trip to Idaho. At Twin Falls, they visited their son and brother, Martie Crandall Cran-dall and then went to Arco where they spent a few days with Mrs. Edith Merrill and Mrs. Dick Rothwell and families. In this vicinity also, they visited the Craters of the Moon. En route home they stopped in Salt Lake City to spend a short time with relatives and friends. Miss Emma Ullock, Miss Leslie Les-lie Loveridge, Miss Lenore ; Weight, Miss Ruth Condie, Miss Marian Patrick and Miss Beth Hall, are spending a few days of the week at Sulphur Springs camp. Mr. and Mrs. G. Dewey Clyde of Logan, spent the week end with relatives in Springville and also attended the Clyde reunion at Midway Hot Pots. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Condie of Rock Springs, Wyo., and children chil-dren visited during the week end with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Condie. Mrs. Mary Oakes and her sons, Thomas and Royal, and Miss Arlene Mendenhall have just returned from a two weeks' vacation trip to the west coast. They spent a delightful time at the world's fair at San Francisco, Fran-cisco, visited friends and relatives rela-tives at Oakland and Napa, and the latter city being the former residence of the Oakes family. On their return, they spent a short time at Tonopah, Nev. . Miss Clara Harmer, daughter of Mrs. Retta Harmer of this city, accompanied by Miss Emily Kroker and Miss Virginia Clark of Salt Lake City, left Tuesday Tues-day for San Francisco, Calif., from where they will sail the latter lat-ter part of the week for a vacation vaca-tion cruise to the Hawaiian Islands. Is-lands. They were accompanied by Miss Dorothy Harmer and Miss Nelda Johnson of this city as far as San Francisco, where they will all tour the world's fail, prior to the three girls' departure. Memlers of the Jeune Mere club spent a delightful evening Wednesday at Riverside Inn. Following Fol-lowing a delicious dinner, the group discussed program plans for the coming year under the diivction of the newly elected president, Mrs. Madelyn Despain. Crandall The Boosters and Novelty Circle Cir-cle members held their annual summer dancing party last Saturday Sat-urday night on the S. S. Sho-Boat Sho-Boat on Utah lake. With a setting set-ting of cool lake breezes and marvelous lighting effects, approximately ap-proximately 90 club members and partners enjoyed the evening's entertainment of dancing, interspersed inter-spersed with light refreshments. As the members and partners entered, miniature pennants with the club's insignia were presented present-ed as favors and to designate to which unit each was affiliated. Everyone in attendance termed the affair one of the most enjoyable en-joyable and socially successful events of the summer season. Mrs. Hazel Roylance and children chil-dren spent a few days of the past week with relatives in Idaho Falls, Ida. Miss Aileon Roylance will remain there until school opens this fall. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Migliaccio have spent the past three days with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Migliaccio, and other relatives in Price. Mrs. Melissa Thompson a'n d daughter are spending two or three weeks' vacation in i Yellowstone Yellow-stone national park. ( Miss Virginia Rivers left ref-cently ref-cently on a month's vacation trip in the East. She plans to visit a former University of Utah schoolmate in Boston and en route spent considerable time at Niagara Falls, at Washington, D. C, and at the world's fair in New York City. On her way home she will visit in St. Louis and will also spend a short" time with her grandmother, Mrs. Eli Rivers at Junction City, Kan. One of the lovely parties of the week was that heid by the Third Ward Gleaner girls, under I he direction of their leaders, Mrs. Catherine Russell and Mrs. Louise Straw, Tuesday night. The atfair was held in the form of a lawn party at the home of Miss Phyllis Smart, assisted by her mother, Mrs. . Mary Smart. The girls practiced their Gleaner songs and- also enjoyed a variety of table games during the evening. eve-ning. President Vilate K. Reynolds Reyn-olds read an invitation to the held a reunion Sunday, at American Amer-ican Fork canyon, with most of the family members being together to-gether for the first, time. The group enjoyed luncheon at noon, followed by an impromptu program pro-gram in which the grandchildren took part. Baseball games and a motor trip around .the Timpan-ogos Timpan-ogos loops were other enjoyable features of the day, concluded with a watermelon bust. In attendance at-tendance from Springville were Mr. and Mrs. Mei'vin Bray and daughters, Hazel and' Helen; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Bray and daughters daugh-ters Beth and Bonnie; Mr. and Mrs. Arvil Bray and sons, Clark and Boyd and Robert; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Bray and daughters Barbara, and from Provo, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bray, Mr. and Mrs. Jessie (Erma Bray) Hardy and two children. Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Hall, Mr. and Mrs. Will Child and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Thorpe have returned re-turned from a vacation trip which took them to the world's fair in San Francisco, Calif., to Pittsburg and Point Richmond, visiting Mr. and Mrs. Jim Wil-kins Wil-kins at the latter place; up the coast to Washington, Oregon and other places of interest . in the Northwest; to Yellowstone national na-tional park and the Jackson Hole country. They were gone about 11-. days. Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Anderson, with Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Hall and daughter, Ruth, spent the week end in Greenriver, Wyo., as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Golden Anderson. Mr. and. Mrs. Lester E. Davis, accompanied by the latter's mother, Mrs. Thomas Charles Hanley and brother, Lewis Han-ley Han-ley of Ogden, spent the past week end with relatives a n d friends at Rawlings, Wyo. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Erdman of Midvale, visited one day the past week with Mr. Erdman's mother, Mrs. Augusta Erdman, who has been in ill health for some time, at her home here. Gleaners of the Second ward held a delightful meeting and social last Friday evening at the home of Miss Elaine Crandall. Special features of entertainment entertain-ment were a short story by Mrs. Mae Groesbeck and piano selections selec-tions by Mrs. Eva Crandall. In conclusion a light luncheon was served. At a previous meeting of the group held at the home of Miss Lucille Strong, a delightful delight-ful time was spent with music, games and luncheon. Officers were also elected as follows: Miss Elaine Crandall, president; Miss Barbara Gudmundsen, vice president; pres-ident; Miss La Jeune Whitney, secretary-treasurer; MGss Lucille Jenkins, reporter. A special invitation in-vitation is extended to all Gleaner Glean-er girls to come to the summer meetings which are to be held on Wednesday night. New members may find out when and where the meetings are to be held by contacting an officer. Members of the Old Friends club held an entertaining canyon can-yon party Friday afternoon, at Vivian park. Cards and a delicious de-licious luncheon featured the occasion oc-casion with the following present: pres-ent: Mrs. Blanch Tipton, Mrs. Elnora Pennington, Mrs. Reta Kelley, Mrs. Gertrude Clements, Mis. Vanza Mann, Mrs. Thelma Clark, Mrs. Leola Ewing, Mrs. Thelma Cherrington, Mrs. Lilhe Hume. Mrs. J. W. Olsen spent a few clays of the past week in Salt Lake City where she attended a number of social functions, given for friends visiting there. ' Mrs. Lester E. Davis has had as her guest recently, her sister, Mrs. W. Gordon McBeth of Santa San-ta Monica, Caiif. In her honor, Mrs. Davis entertained a number num-ber of friends and relatives at a social at her home on Wednesday. |
