Show Riots Accompany Prohibition Start In Bombay, India BOMBAY, India. Aug. 2 (UP) -Rioting broke out today on the inauguration of prohibition in Bombay and its environs. Police fired on a crowd of rioting riot-ing Moslems who marched in protest pro-test against the government and the extra taxation which will be levied to compensate for I lie Iosh of revenue from spirits. Five of the paraders were injured, two seriously. The Moslems paraded with black flags. Their demonstration coincided with a parade of 20,000 women and 50,000 textile workers, mostly Hindus, in the slums singing sing-ing anti-drink ballads. The Moslems were stoned by Hindu spectators and 10 were injured in-jured slightly. When order was restored, the procession reformed and continued. |
