Show Plot To Wreck Hoover Train Is Frustrated 22 Sticks of Dynamite Found By Railroad Bridge In Nevada. ELKO, Nev Nov. 8 (U.P) An alert Southern Pacific watchman today was believed to have averted an attempt to dynamite a railway trestle near Palisades, Nev., a short time before the special train of President Hoover passed over the bridge. P. E. Fish, the watchman who had been placed on guard at the trestle, reported to railway officials offic-ials that he found 22"5ticks of dynamite dy-namite after frightening away two men in a gun battle. Deputy sheriffs from Elko were searching the rough sparsely settled set-tled country in the vicinity of the trestle for the two men, one of whom Fish believed as a negro. The watchman received a flesh wound in the hand in the skirmish with the men. His clothing was slashed, he said, when one of the men slashed at him with a knife. A. A. Lowe, railroad division inspector, in-spector, who. was riding on the pilot engine, expressed doubt that the men intended to dynamite the trestle. He said no fuses or caps were found at the spot. j |
