Show SOCIETY NES Miss Jessee- Mulchings was hostess host-ess Wednesday evening at a nicely arranged dinner at her home complimentary com-plimentary to a number of friends. The dining table held a lovely bowl : of summer flowers as a centerpiece and covers were arranged for Superintendent Sup-erintendent and Mrs. Roy D. Nicholas Nich-olas and son Carl of Eagar, Ariz, and MY. and Mrs- Joseph Nicholas of American. Mr. Nicholas is superintendent sup-erintendent and principal at the Eagar high school of which Miss Hitchings is. a faculty member. Mrs. Harry Ballard of Ashtor., Idaho, was the guest of her cousin. Mrs. T. E. Child, Jr., during Thursday. Thurs-day. One of the biggest and most suc- cessful socials of this week was given Monday afternoon when Mrs Julia Packard was hostess to the members of 'Camp No. 1, Daughters of Pioneers of this city, and Camp No. 1 Daughters of Pioneers of Mapleton and invited guests at he: home. The party was given in honor hon-or of the retiring officers of the' 1 two Springville organizations and they were each presented with a picture of the old white meeting house. An especially enteraining program was given during the afternoon aft-ernoon as follows: Quartet, Mildred Jarvis, Percinda Oakley. Elsie Thorn, Erva Childs, vocal solo, Clara Crandall; pianologue, lone Averett; vocal solo, Rulon Crandall; son and Miss Nelda Snelson, all of Springville attended a reception Saturday evening at the home o-Mr. o-Mr. and Mrs. Bert Elliott in Provo in honor of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Collins who were married last Saturday Sat-urday noon in Salt Lake. Members of the 4-H sewing club of Springville will meet at the home of the leader Miss Fay Nelson this evening. The subject . of "Tabls Ettiquette" vill be reviewed and the attendance of every member is desired. , A nicely arranged party in the form of a mid-summer outing was enjoyed by the ladies of the Home Culture, Mothers' Study and Alpha Beta clubs Friday afternoon on the city park. Howard McKenzie read the book "Beau Geste," and Mrs. Millie C. Scoffield entertained with pin no-accordion selections. After the program, lunch was enjoyed by about 50 members and guests present. pres-ent. Miss Loa Anderson of Fairviow is the guest of her aunt, Mrs. Alva Za-briskic Za-briskic and family here this week. Mr. adn Mrs. Earl Hutchings of this city were dinner guests Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Swenson ot Manila following a meeting of that state ut which Mr. Hutchings gave a ta.k on his travels trav-els in Africa. In the evening the party attended the Sunset tally, an annual pffair of the Manila ward. Miss Luell Straw of this city is spending the week with friends and relatives in Salt Lake. Miss Alzada Wilmott, Miss Inez Jessee, Miss Mat tie Davis and Mis. Ada Jessee have spent the past several days on a vacation trip to Zion end Bryce canyons and other places of interest in southern Utah. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Bird of this city were guests Saturday evening at the silver wedding anniversary celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Mortensen held at Provo. Mrs. Spender Sumsion was assisting assist-ing hostess at a shower Monday evening given in honor of Miss Naomi Madsen. a bride of this week at the home of Mary Forsythe in Provo. Miss Merlene Sumsion of this city was also a guest at the party. Mi s. Ann is Singleton and two daiighlers of Eureka and " David Singleton of Tooele were guests during the past week at the home of Mis. Phoebe Singleton in this city. Mrs. Eliza Thorn entertained at a nicely arranged family dinner at her home Sunday. With the following fol-lowing children present: Dr. and Mrs. Harold Finch of Laramie, i Wyo,. Dr. nnd Mrs. Mark Bring-; Bring-; hurst of Salt Lake. On Monday. Mrs. nhema Weight and Mrs. Nora 1 Clyde were the guests of Mrs. jThom. piano solo, Eva Crandall; vocal solo Helen Palfreyman; piano solo Blanch Hales; vocal solo, Hannah Packard, of Provo; reading, Ella Reynolds. After this program the guests retired to the lawn and were entertained with readings by Mrs. Eliza Thorn, Phoebe Singleton and Eliza Packard. A dainty and delicious delic-ious lunch was then served to neai- , ly one hundred membeis- and guest j i present. During the afternoon the chair- i men of various committees for the September home-coming gave reports re-ports and "pep" talks on the big events of which the Daughters ol' Pioneers' monument committee is directly in charge. Mr. Margaret Miner, captain of Camp No. 1 gave an especially enthusiastic talk on the home-coming. The guests were later escorted through the spacious lawns and grounds of the Packard residence. Mr. and Mrs. John Keele and Mrs Naomi Foreman, all of Blackfoot, Idaho. Mrs Martha Harrison spent th" past week in Ogden visiting witr. her daughter Vivian and friends. Mrs. Celestia Boyer of this city observed her seventy-sixth birthday Sunday with the following children at dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Andersoir of Lehi, Mr. and Mis.
