Show Yellowstone Park Visitor Doubts Geyser Genuine YELLOWSTONE PARK. Wyo., Jury 30 It's hard to prove to t'hc dubious visitor to Yellowstone Na- tional Park that all the wonders in tli is great area arc natural and not man-made. The latest -"doubting Thomas" to question the peculiarities of Dame Nature caused quite a stir around Old Fail'hful recently. Park officials have arranged a string of electric lights in the vicinity vic-inity of Old Faithful geyser so that visitors can readily approach the famous spout in darkness without danger to themselves. The switch which turns these lights on is placed on a ligTit pole at considerable consider-able distance from the geyser cone, near the Old Faithful museum. District Ranger Frank Childs and Ranger Proctor Dougherty worp annrnaliinp th switn'h nnp night recently and noting the ap7 proach of nightfall, Childs turned to Doug'herty and indicated the switch. "Well, I guess we'd better turn her on," he suggested to Dougherty, Dougher-ty, Whereupon the ranger stepped up to the pole and threw the switch to light up the entire area around Old Faithful. At the same time the famous geyser decided it was time to put on her spectacular stiow. To a passing park visitor who overheard the rangers' conversation conversa-tion and then saw the coincidental eruption of Old Faithful, this was enoug'h. Taking another look at the age-old spout, he muttered, "I knew that thing wasn't genuine." |
