Show Jailer Is , Slugged By Prisoners Another jail break was attempted by Utah county prisoners Tuesday afternoon. Deputy George Loveless, now acting as day jailer, was attacked at-tacked by Don Baker and Elmer Cole, and slugged with an improvised impro-vised black jack, but he was not knocked out and with the assistance of some of the other prisoners, prevented pre-vented the escape of his attackers. The attack occurred about 2:30 o'clock. Baker called to Loveless, asking for a favor, and when the jailer went to the jail room, linker seized him and Cole hit him over the head with a heavy slug. The blow knocked Loveless to his knees, but he was not seriously injured, and with the aid of friendly friend-ly prisoners, soon subdued Cole and Baker. Baker is in prison for a service serv-ice station robbery, and Cole for the theft of an automobile. Subsequent seach of the prison- er's bedding revealed other slugs. |
