Among the successful and well arranged -parties of the week was one given by the local Legion auxiliary aux-iliary in the Fire hall Saturday evening. Mrs. Cleonda Miner act' ed as general chairman. Progressive Progress-ive bridge and "500" was featured as entertainment with prizes foi high score going to Mrs. George Crandall, Mrs. Lee Sumsion and Guy Menderihall. Chcrrington., Mr. and Mrs. W. Ernest Sumsion of this city announce the marriage of their daughter Nell to Emmett D. Ford of Provo. The marriage took place Saturday in Salt Lake. The story of "Lincoln and a Mother's Love," given by Miss Floss Harmer, was a Interesting feature of Friday's meeting of the Alpha ; Beta club. Mrs. Ethel Weight was . hostess. Music was furnished by Miss Hannah Rowland, who sang , two solos. Luncheon was served to a large crowd of members and guests. The Vikings, social unit of the B. Y. U. to which a number of Springville boys belong, held their annual banquet and social in the Second ward hall Wednesday evening. eve-ning. The Relief society of the ward prepared the banquet. Members of the Ladies' Literary club were pleasantly entertained at the home of Mrs. E. S. Groesbeck Monday evening when Mrs. Moe Huntington reviewed the book "Erothers in the West," by Robert Reynolds. Mrs. Mary Bradford sang two Hawaiian songs accompanied accom-panied at the piano by Mrs. Julia Sumsion. President Minnie Groesbeck Groes-beck presided at the meeting and a brief discussion of the Christmas party was held. Luncheon was served early in the evening to 14 members and four guests including Mrs. Bradford, Mrs. Paul Thorn, Mrs. F. E. Cowan of Provo and i Miss Emma Cole of Nephi. Miss Jane Alleman and Gene AMenian of Salt Lake visited their parents Mr. and Mrs. Harold Alleman Alle-man this week. . Mrs. Vera Marcusen and son Burt of-Nampa, Idaho, are visiting her father John Burt and sister Mis. Moe Huntington in this city. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Burton of Salt Lake were guests the past week of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Thorpe. A -group- of friends were entertained enter-tained by Miss, Ruth Mendenhali at her home Saturday evening. Dancing and progressive games were enjoyed together with a delicious de-licious lunch. In attendance were: Norma Witney, Christine Donaldson, Donald-son, Naomi Tipton, Melva Jenkins, Erma Haymond, Willie Harrison, Frank Metcalf, Ray Sumsion and , Vallace Patrick. .. Complimentary to Mr. and Mrs. Levi Thorpe, their son Albert and wife, entertained at a nicely arranged ar-ranged party Saturday evening. The occasion was Mrs. Thorpe's seventy-first birthday anniversary. Luncheon was served by the hostess host-ess following a pleasant time spent with social chat, games and, radio music. Mrs. Thorpe received a number of lovely gifts from her children. Present were: Mr. and Ms. Charles Reynolds, Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Thorpe, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Thorpe, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Burton of Salt Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Thorpe, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Thorpe, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Thorpe, Blaine, Russell, Leola, Shirley and Morris Thorpe. Mrs. Gwen Cutler, formerly Miss Gwen Zabriskie of this city, gave a party for Springville friends at her home in Spanish Fork Monday evening. eve-ning. Approximately fifty relatives and friends were in attendance at a miscellaneous shower given by Mrs. Ernest Sumsion for her daughter Nell, Monday evening. Assisting Mrs. Sumsion were Miss Louise Gore and Miss Mary Miller, Luncheon Lunch-eon followed games, and later gifts, presented to the bride, were opened. Misa Sumsion was married Saturday Satur-day to Emmett Ford of Provo. Mrs. J. F. Wingate was in Salt Lake Thursday to attend the f u-neral u-neral 'service of her cousin, Dr. F. W. Meakin, prominent Salt Lake dentist, who died early in the week from injuries sustained in a fall from a ladder . |
