It has carried on, in face of disaster and drought. Our county coun-ty was hard bit in 1931, and who knows what is ahead? This, we do know, that the production picture is much brighter this year. Snow fall now is at a point which practically insures ample supply of water, so essential in Into season for beets. Water storage in the mountains will be held by the great Strawberry reservoir for the entire south end of the county. It ranks along with the dairy, poultry and livestock industries of our county. Were we to take these away and cut out the fruit acreage too, our agriculture would be practically prac-tically gone. The major sugar company of the county alone paid S484.632 last year for this cash crop, supplied by 1105 farmers, whose acreage totaled 7,612 acres. From these farms came 80.772 tons of beets. Each former had an average of 51'- acres which meant fin average income from beets of $3-10 per ton. Unlike most crops farmers know the contract price at planting time. Proper seed bed, ample fertilizer and good care through the growing season, assures the farmer of neces- sary cash income; supplies a labor market and fits a perfect rotation plan. In years of feed shortage this king feed provides beet pulp, molasses mo-lasses etc.. considered one of our cheapest sources of feeds.
