Show 417 PEH FATALITIES Automobile Crashes Take Heaviest Death Toll. lty UNITED PKESS More than four hundred persons lost their lives over the double holiday, Christmas Christ-mas day and Monday, in automobile auto-mobile crashes, train accidents acci-dents and shooting affrays, and by poison liquor and cake and drowning, a United Press survey today showed. More than half of the fatalities were due to automobile and train accidents and almost one-half of the remainder resulted from homicides homi-cides and suicides. Tho greatest single catastrophe was the entombment en-tombment of 54 coal miners at Mowequa, 111. California led all other states in automobile fatalities with 20 reported, re-ported, Missouri and Michigan were tied for second with 17 each. The tabulation by the United Press shows 227 deaths by automobiles auto-mobiles and homicides, 79 suicides and 101 miscellaneous, a total of 407 deaths. |
