California; Orient Is Potential Market. NEW YORK, N. Y.f April 22 'estern expansion of United States Steel was indicated indi-cated by Myron C. Taylor, chairman of the corporation's finance committee, at the annual an-nual meeting of stockholders in Hoboken, N. J., Monday. He stated that the corporation's acquisition of Columbia Steel is to form the nucleus of U. K. Steel's western operations, and this statement state-ment is regarded as significant by leading stockholders. Orient's Potential Market That the steel corporation expects ex-pects the big demand for steel in future years to come from the west, was a belief freely expressed by those attending the meeting. , Great potential markets are avail-1 avail-1 able in the Orient, and when con ditions become stabilized in thosn countries, great things are antici pated. Steel men here also express the belief that a large proportion oi i Russia's demand for steel for for- eign sources will be filled by ship-L ship-L ments from California ports, via - Siberia, in the next few years. If this expansion of U. S. Steel comes, Utah territory will undoubtedly un-doubtedly be affected. The Provo plant is regarded as an important unit of production, and iron properties prop-erties in Iron county and coal properties in Carbon also offer -viae opportunity in this possible western program of development.
