Show VALUE OF BASEBALL Baseball! A magic word a word that has no synonym. A word that has but one meaning to every red-blooded American. Ameri-can. It stands as a symbol for cleanliness, vigor, ambition and recreation.1 It creates in the life of young America a love of clean sport; a keener perception of true sportsmanship and its value in the daily routine of life. Occasionally we hear from those who are inclined to berate be-rate this great national game. They can see no value in it. They say their time is of too much importance to waste it in watching a game of baseball. Close analysis would no doubt find these individuals self-contained, narrow and lacking in tolerance. Without tolerance they lack judgment also. They fail to learn to give and take they are selfish and exceedingly exceeding-ly stingy. Hut who wants to bother with that sort in this day of alertness. We should scarcely take time to mention them. Surely there is nothing to be gained in doing so, for one cannot can-not get inspiration from that source. So let's talk about baseball about baseball in Springville. Spring-ville. We must have a team here we should have a winning team. We should have a team that will represent Springville Spring-ville in a way that we can be proud of it: The question then arises How are we to get that sort of a team? It's not so hard as it might seem. We might be grooming just that kind of a team now. But grooming is not all that is necessary neces-sary to its success. First of all, we must give baseball our moral support, without that we can't get far. Yes, and we should go just a little farther than that. We should give the team our financial fin-ancial support. Sometimes that's not easy to do unless we can see immediate returns on the investment. Those returns are there, and the better our team the bigger are the returns. Every city recognizes the importance of publicity. That's one way we get returns. Let Springville produce a phenomenal phenom-enal player and the eyes of the entire intermountain region are focused on our team. The big daily papers of the territory terri-tory talk about it, and thousands think favorably of our team and of our city. ' That, too, is only a small item in comparison with the splendid spirit the great game creates among our citizenry. It takes much of the dullness out of our lives and brightens our paths. We look forward to a day of recreation, and in baseball we are not disappointed if our team receives the support it should receive. ,1 Let's do something for baseball let some one suggest what it shall be to meet the needs of the national sport in our city. ' We can put it over, and its worth the effort. |
