CONTEMPLATES BUILDING BIG TIE TREATING PLANT Negotiations Now Under Way in Denver to Treat Railroad Ties for Three Large Railroad Companies PLANT WOULD EMPLOY MANY MEN Provo may rceive another large industrial plant within the next few months, if plans now under consideration mature, ma-ture, it is learned from reliable sources. A large plant for the treating of the ties for three railroad rail-road companies is contemplated to be built here by the Republic Repub-lic Creosote company near its present plant at Ironton. Representatives of the company are now in Denver Negotiating Nego-tiating with officials of the Missouri Pacific, the Denver and Rio Grande Western, and the West Pacific railroad companies relative to the treating of the ties used by these companies. If the contract that is known to have been presented the railway officials by the Republic Creosoting Company is accepted, the building of the new treating plant will be con-I con-I structed immediately, it is understood. According to advices reaching Provo, it is learned that the Creosoting Creo-soting plant offered the contract to build a tie treating plant at its Ironton property immediately after it had become known that the three railroads were intending to build such a plant at Salida, Colorado. Should the railroad officials accept ac-cept the contract, the Creosoting company will begin immediately to construct the plan and another large payrool builder will be constructed in Trovo. Visions of such a plant were held by the officials of the Republic Creosoting company at the time they closed a ten-year contract with the Columbia Steel corporation for the use of all the tar products of that concern at its Ironton plant. The company owns 40 acres of land for plant purposes although the present buildings cover less than three acres. A tie treating plant requires not only ground for the plant proper but also large yards were both the treated and the untreated ties may be stacked. It is estimated that from 50 to 100 men woudl have constant employment em-ployment at such a plant as is contemplated con-templated to take care of the three railroads interested in the project. Decision of the railroad officials is expected at any time, it is said. |
