Show STATE TRACK iEETCOMESTO T SATURDAY , Final preparations for the state triangular track meet ' to be ' held hero Saturdny are under way at the Young university. Coach Twitchell and, his men are putting, on the finishing fin-ishing touches to team and track in order that the day may be as perfect', per-fect', as possible. r " " " '" With the Aggies on the rampage this' spring with the most brilliant track . and field team that has been seen inl Utah In years and with Fltzpatriek, a place in . the cellar seems assured for the Y. The team, with Captain , P.earce at the head, however, is 'determined to go down fighting;, , Many, things .can happen in a track meet, just as they may happen In any form of athletics. : . The dope indicates that the Aggies will make practicnlly as many points as the other twTo teams combined. This on account of the fact that the Farmers have run. off with first places against both of the other schools, Utah won only four firsts and Young even fewer against the northerners. Pearce maybe the upsetting factor. fac-tor. The' determined little captain fqoled all judges last year by ripping off the 100 and the 220 in the state nieet'at almost record time. He may repeat this year. IGeddes. as good as he is, will be forced to extend himself in the quarter quar-ter if he is to win. Frosty Richards if, he is in as good condition as he was against Utah, will make Norton step much better time in the two mile. if he is to, win. ,. . . Interest will center in the relays. The Aggies went away from the dual met with oYung feeling , that hard luck lost one of the relays for them when . one of their men . fell down. Next Saturday the northerners northern-ers will fight hard for these two events. . From a team angle the state' meet is going to be uninteresting, due to the fact that the competition will not be keen except between Utah and Young for second and. third places but the Interest in several events will .be exceptionally keen. . Many Y' fans are asking, can Pearce repeat his performance of last year? Can Simmons, the Y freshman, step with Geddes in the quarter? Can Maeser equal some of his previous marks in the high jump nnd defeat Lunt? Can Cox of Utah repeat in the shot put and defeat de-feat Morrill of' the Aggies? Con the Y split the relays with the Aggies? Can Utah's javelin aces repeat .Veir performance of the dual meet? " ' With showers sprinkling the hack early this week, the day the field should be in first cla shape for some record performances. The field events, taken as a whole,, are the best over seen on a collegiate ficUl in Utah. While the track performances per-formances are not quite record makers mak-ers they are so close to the records that any advantage given by wind or timers will be sufficient to topple former state marks. |
