Show Utah Bands To Compete for Prizes At State Fair There will be "music in the air" and plenty of it nt the Utah State Fair, October 2 to 9. Bands from all sections of the state will vie with one another for the cash and other prizes set up in ench of three classifications. classi-fications. And according to an ngreement entered into by the hands themselves, each aggregation of musicians will determine which class it shall enter. Philip H. Sapiro, director of the San Francisco municipal band, will be judge of the contest. He will select se-lect three pieces, suitable for bands of greater or lesser instrumentation nnd experience nnd the bands themselves them-selves will choose which piece they wish to lie judged by. The prizes for the winner In Class 1 are $250 In cash and a loving cup: in Class 2, $150 in cash nnd either a cup or a valuable band instrument instru-ment in Class 3, $100 in cash' and nn Instrument.-merchandise or cash. The contest Is open to any professional pro-fessional or amateur band iu Utah, composed of Utah musicians. There are no restrictions as to the size of bands, each organization automatically auto-matically classifying itself by selection se-lection of tbe piece it wishes to play-Bands play-Bands wishing to enter should mail applications to the office of the Utah Slate Fair Association.
