BODY PASSES THROUGH LONG FLUME Joseph Vernon Park, two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Park of the Sharon ward, drowned Thursday about 8 :30 o'clock in an irrigation ditch running through the Park farm on the state highway immediately south of the Sharon ward chapel. Fire Chief Reed Boshard and Scott Thompson of the Provo fire department operated the lung motor on the child Cor more than 45 minutes, assisting Dr. E. G. Hughes, but the child had been in the water too long. The body was found about half a mile north-west of the Park home near the Orem plant of the Pleasant Grove Canning Can-ning company where it had lodged against a board in a ditch. According to members of the family fam-ily the child hud been playing around the door yard of the Park home. When the mohter missed him, she immediately started a search in which she was assisted by neighbors and members of her family. The first intimation that the had fallen in the irrigation ditch was when the hat of the litle boy was found in the stream a short distance from the home. The body had been carried with the stream north from the Park home nnd had passed through n flume, 45 fet long, underneath the Orem interurhan railroad. The body was found by a neighbor boy lodged against a board In the ditch, near the canning factory after the water hnd been turned out of the ditch. The child was carried to its home by the father nnd an uncle, David Park. Dr. Hughes was Immediately notified no-tified of the accident and he in turn asked Chief Koshurd to take the lung motor to the Park home. Everything Every-thing possible was done for the child but without avail. ' Surviving the child are (he parents, par-ents, four brothers and .six sisters. The body wns taken to the Berg Mortuary. Funeral services will be arranged later. |
