Show SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 13. Governor Charles R. Mabey today decided that March 15 will not be celebrated in the state of Utah as Steel day. He also said that it would not be April 15, but that May 15 would tentatively be decided de-cided upon. He also intimated that the date would not be definitely decided upon until suggested by the heads of the Columbia Steel corporation. The decision of Governor Mabey to change the date from March 15, is understood to have been made after officials of the Columbia Steel corporation had informed him that the plant would not be in operation until some time after April 15. L. F. Rains, vice president of the corporation, also expressed ex-pressed himself as in favor of postponing the celebration until sometime in May or June. "A steel day celebration will be more convenient for us in the middle of May or the first part of June than at any earlier date," said Mr. Rains. "When the plant starts into operation about April 15 there will be a thousand and one things that will need the attention of all of our men and there will be no time or inclination for any celebration. "The physical condition of the soil surrounding the plant would also make it almost impossible for any crowd to get on the plant site as early in the spring as March 15. A later celebration cele-bration would make it much more convenient not only for the steel corporation but for the celebrators also." |
