Emmett Bird of this city announce the engagement engage-ment of their daughter Rena to A. W. Caine Jr., of Salt Lake City. The marriage will take place Saturday December 21 in the Salt Lake temple. Miss Bird is a graduate. nurse of the L. D. S. hospital. The young couple will make their home in Salt Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Ford Ci r.ndall j formerly of this city have returned j to their home in Ogden following a week end visit with their parents Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Crandall. Their son Kenneth spent a week with his grandparents, accompaning his parents on their return home. The ladies of the Alpha Beta club of this city will be entertained Friday Fri-day afternoon December 20 at the home of Mrs. Mary L. Smart. The meeting is scheduled for 3 o'clock. A nice program is arranged for the I occasion and all members are invited in-vited to be present. Members of the Second ward Relief Re-lief society enjoyed the afternoon Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Francis Fran-cis Whitney, who has been ill for some time and was unable to attend at-tend the regular meeting. It was literary day for the society and the book "The American Idyll" was given in splendid manner by Mrs. William Wainwright, also a short musical program was featured. One cf the pleasant social affairs of the pre-holidays was the party given. Tuesday evening by Mrs. Leon Harrison and Mrs. Beit West at the home ol the latter. The en-tcitaining en-tcitaining rooms were beautiful, being be-ing decorated with poinsettas and otner Christmas emblems. Progressive Pro-gressive "500" was the principal feature of entertainment, four tables for the game being arranged. Guests included the following friends : Mr. and Mrs. Ru.lon Maughan of Provo, Mr. and Mrs. Manired Hutchinson, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Finley, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Hawkins, Mr. and Mrs. Vein Clan-dan, Clan-dan, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Jensen, Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Perham and Mrs. Ray Roberson. High score prizes during the evening were won by Mrs. E. F. Perham and Leon Harrison and consolations to Rulon Maughan and Mrs. Gerald Haktns. ! Prominent among the social functions of the week was the ' party given Tuesday evening by j the Third ward Gleaner girls at the I home of Miss Marian Groesbeck. Assembled around a large ' and beautifully decorated Christmas tree the girls of the class exchanged exchang-ed gifts. Music and games were also entertaining features of the evening. A delicious luncheon was j served in conclusion to the following follow-ing members and guests present: I Miss Ion,-?
