Show SOCIETY " - : The Mother's Study club of this city were responsible for the especially espe-cially successful dancing party given last Monday evening in the high school. During the evening's entertain, Ralph B. Weight was successful in winning tho five-pound five-pound bo: of candy and Olin Zu-briskie Zu-briskie won a large fruit cake. A good crowd enjoyed the affair. Among the successful pre-holiday socials was the annual Home Economics Eco-nomics ball given Friday evening in the high school. A representative representa-tive crowd of students were in attendance. at-tendance. Members of the Alpha Beta club were pleasantly entertained last Friday afternoon at ,the home of Mrs. G. G. Neill. An enjoyable program pro-gram was given consisting of readings, read-ings, "Straight as a String," and "The Selfish Giant" by Miss Eunice Bird of Provo, also Miss Gene Neill entertained with a reading. In conclusion con-clusion a delicious luncheon was j served by the hostess to nineteen members and the following guests; Mrs. Seymour L. Mendenhall Jr.. Mrs. Nielson, Mrs. Arthur Harmer, Mrs. E. L. Otteson, Mrs. Bliss Childs and Mrs. Helen C. Nebeker of Salt Lake City. Miss Hilda Clegg will be hostess to the members of the N. I. P. club at a Christmas party Monday evening, eve-ning, December 23. All members are cordially invited to attend. j Probably the outstanding social. I event of the past week was the , Christmas program and social given by the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers of Springville and Mapleton Maple-ton in ihe First ward amusement hall Thursday afternoon complimentary compli-mentary to the pioneers of both communities. The Christmas color red and green were artistically carried out in room and table decorations dec-orations and also in the lunch. Mrs. Julia Dallin, captain of Camp No.l presided and announced the following follow-ing program: Community singing; prayer, Mrs. Ellen McKenzie; dance numbers, Misses Hazel Anderson An-derson and Gena Smith, accompanied accom-panied at the piano by Miss Hah Stevenson; violin duet; Miss Anderson An-derson and Ileen Harrison, accompanied accom-panied by Miss Stevenson at the piano; Mrs. Blanch Beal gave in an interesting manner the Christmas Christ-mas story, "The Mansons." This was followed by a talk on "Community "Com-munity Work of Early Pioneers", given by Don C. Johnson; Ralph B. Weight played two cornet solos, accompanied by Mrs. Mary Witney. Remarks were made by Mrs. Josephine C. Jones and Mrs. Rosi-land Rosi-land A. Oakley of the county chapter, chap-ter, Springville. Moroni Miner, 'M years old, gave a short talk. During the serving of refreshments Miss Helen Palfreyman entertained with vocal selections accompanied at the piano by Miss Alzada Wilmott, Mrs. Eliza Boyer offered the benediction. bene-diction. Nearly eighty members and truests were present. Hostesses in- eluded Mrs. Ella Miner, Mrs. Laura Banner, Mrs. Emma Haymond, Mis. Dora Rowland, Mrs. Olive Mc-Curdy, Mc-Curdy, Mrs. Hannah Davis, Mrs. Eliza Boyer. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Harmer of this city accompanied by friends from Provo spent Friday in Salt Lake City. The operetta "Kay and Gerda" presented by students of the Washington Wash-ington school Wednesday in the high school auditorium was cffectively carried out. The many and varicolored vari-colored costumes added much to the performance which was greatly great-ly enjoyed by a large attendance of par ents and friends . Mrs. Effie Martinson of Colorado spent two days of the past week with her mother Mrs. Anthon Nielson Niel-son and other relatives hcre and in Mapleton. The members of the Third ward are sponsoring the third of a series of Kolob stake dances to he held Friday evening, December 20 in the high school gymnasium. Previous Previ-ous dances, sponsored by the Mapleton Maple-ton ward the Fourth ward of lhis city proved especially successful ! from a social standpoint. Bringhurst and family in Salt Lake City. Mrs. Helen Nebeker and son of Salt Lake City were guests last week end of Mi s. Nebcker's mother Mrs. Ella Olyde of this city. An extemporaneous program was enjoyed by the members of the Kiwanis Ki-wanis club at their regular weekly luncheon Thursday evening. A. O. i Packard "was toastmaster. Plans for a Christmas program and social to be held early next week were discussed. The members of the Gleaner class of the Fourth ward M. I. A. are making arrangements for a Christmas Christ-mas party for class to be held Sat-urday Sat-urday evening December 21 at the i home of ICss Melba Koylance. One of the most enjoyable parties of the past wopk was given by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sanford at their home Saturday evening. The guests came artlicd in misfit costumes which added much to the spirit ot the party. A variety of entertain- j ing games were played and dc- j licious refreshments were served by the hostess.
