Show SPRINGVILLE TO CELEBRATE FEBRUARY 12 25,000 Art Collection of Dr. George L. Smart to Be Received. Thursday afternoon. February 12, Lincoln's birthday, will be a half holiday in Springville, in order that all citizens may attend the art program at the high school and show their appreciation to Dr. ! George L. Smart of Salt Lake City, for the recent gift of his private , collection of art which will he presented pre-sented to the Springville art gal- 1 lcry at this time nnd is valued at $25,000, according to the decision of the Springville city council in regular reg-ular session last Tuesday evening when the mayor was authorized by resolution to issue a proclamation to this effect. The Springville volunteer fire department de-partment gave a written report for i the year 1924, and Fire Chief Leo G. Robertson presented a petition asking the city to build a fire station sta-tion for the fire engine this summer sum-mer and to purchase 500 feet of new hose and some rubber coats for the firemen. The report was accepted with a unanimous vote of thanks by the council and the petition was granted. grant-ed. The matter was referred to the committee on the fire department with power to act and were instructed in-structed to have an architect draw plans for the new building in the near future. A verbal petition in behnlf of the J water users was presented by - Amvot Cherrington and Heber -t Iloutz, asking that the handling of the irrigation waters of Hobble -i creek as well as Strawberry be taken out of the hands of the city m . council and placed with an irriga-tf irriga-tf tion board who should be elected by ,1,, the water usens. A resolution was passed authorizing author-izing the committee on streets and walks to construct a new irrigating ditch along the east side of Second F.ast street from Fourth South to Third South street to prevent the flooding that usually takes place in that district during the irrigating season. The question of the Great Western West-ern Coal company and the Columbia Colum-bia Steel company distributing coal in Springville without, a license was referred to the city attorney for investigation. The recorder ' was instructed to notify all coal dealers in the city whose licenses were not paid that payments must be made innnedailely. II. J. Fletter and Wm.
