Show SKULLS REVEAL EARLYBATTLES BAKER SFIELD, Apg, 17. A engagement between early whites and Indians is recalled in the discovery discov-ery in the desert near Lost Hills of a number of skeletons. After identification of the remains of those of four white men, two white women and five Indians, it was remembered that local historians histor-ians have linked the spot with one of the early battles between Indians and white settlers. .Nine of the skulls found were crushed, revealing the fact that death came in hand-to-hand fighting, fight-ing, perhaps with the butts of rifles or with tomahawks. The section in which the skeletons were discovered is a desolnte sage covered fringe of the Mojave desert. According to stories of the massacre here the Indians set upon the small party of whites as tliey 'emerged from a grueling desert Journey. |
