Show Troop 69 has opportunity to put lifesaving to practice A group of Springville Explorer Ex-plorer Scouts put into practice prac-tice the lifesaving information learned through their program last Friday night when they happened upon an accident two miles south of Nephi. They found Harold Lund, 50, Salt Lake City, pinned under a truck which had flipped over along with the car it had been towing when both vehicles began be-gan to sway. The Scouts, under the supervision super-vision of their leader, Richard Peterson, helped the track driver, dri-ver, Henry Kooyman, 64, also of Salt Lake, free the injured man and gave him first aid. While they' were doing this, one of the Explorers drove into in-to Nephi to notify the highway high-way patrol. The injured man was in shock and the Scouts, in 0 deg. temperature, removed remov-ed their coats to keep the man warm. He was taken to the Juab hospital in Nephi and later transferred to the Salt Lake Veteran's hospital. He suffered lacerations. The Explorer Scouts were from Post 69, Ninth ward, and were returning from a tour of Nellis Air Force Base just north of Las Vegas, Nevada where they had gone Wednesday Wednes-day morning. While they were there, they toured the base and saw the control tour, landing land-ing and departing of planes; saw the many different types and heard of the particular use of each plane. They visited headquarters of the Thunder-bird Thunder-bird pilots and training and saw patrol maneuvers. They also spent an afternoon at the Hoover dam. The post has done considerable consider-able first aid demonstrating having appeared in Provo on five occasions, once in Salt Lake and Orem and two in the city. |
