To provide these, Springville needs more adequate job opportunities oppor-tunities for its citizens, better shopping facilities, building facilities fac-ilities for public meetings, teenagers' teen-agers' socials, golfing facilities and a more adequate building and facilities for the high school. These are the items most desired by citizens of Springville Spring-ville as shown in the recent completed Jaycee-s p o n s o r ed survey. Other items appear on the chart also, pointing up some vital percentages regarding regard-ing needed services and facilities facilit-ies in the city as well as showing the fine facilities and services the city now has. Lack of job opportunities carried car-ried the highest percentage . on the charted survey with ! as high as 80 claiming inadequate inade-quate opportunities. Next in line came the shopping facilities facilit-ies which rated a high 53 inadequate. Of specisl interest was the third highest percentage under the inadequate column, that of a public meeting place and teenagers' socials which rated 50.0. In view of the recent meetings held and plans made for a civic center, this phase of the complaints should be on its way to improvement if proper facilities are included in the new building. Golfing came in for a high 44.8 inadequate in the city, followed by a close 42.5 claiming the inadequate facilities facil-ities of the high school. In listing answers to the open end questions of the survey, sur-vey, and particularly the one: "Is there anything that you dislike?" townfolk listed improvements im-provements needed in the following fol-lowing in the order listed (1) Main street business houses improved and better stocked, (2) job opportunities, (3) civic center, (4) recreation for teens, (5) new high school, (6) regulatory regu-latory street signs (4th North and Main), (7) policing of speeding, (8) road repairs, (9) civic beautification, (10) recreation rec-reation facilities for all, (11) parking facilities. They felt this was one way to show pride in our city in other community events. Generally recreation wise, good facilities and programs avail- able. Library facilities were mentioned as good through junior jun-ior high age' but could be upgraded up-graded for above this age, including in-cluding better facilities. Under law enforcement, some increased increas-ed services came under comment. com-ment. Zoning, health, court and legal services lacked information informa-tion and general understanding. A suggested information program pro-gram and extra informative publicity might help this phase, it was pointed out. On the more favorable side of the survey, townfolk, through their rating, praised the services of postal department, depart-ment, newspaper service, fire protection, all with a "very good" rating. Highest adequate rating went to the city garbage collection, law enforcement and police protection, street system, maintenance and cleaning of streets, resturaunts, public library, li-brary, and handbill. In addition to the questions shown on the chart, other questions were asked. One included, in-cluded, "Is there anything that you particularly like about Springville?" A large majority wrote in the city's fine water and the city's prominence as a residential place. Cultural attributes were also mentioned. Recreation, generally, and its natural as well as provided facilities and programs, were praised. Chart recordings point up the other preferences of city facilities and services. Jaycee members spent considerable con-siderable time in taking the survey and compiling it. Art Mitchell, in charge of the task, expresses thanks to those who assisted and to townfolk responding re-sponding to the survey and its questions. Chart of attitudes, services and facilities appears herewith. |
