Mushrooms were first culti-vated 400 years ago in the limestone caves of Paris. The caves were actually quarries from which stone was taken to build some of the most famous structures of the city. Today the small white mushrooms grown in the lie de France are still called "champignons de Pe Paris." A budget report for the per-iod of July 1, 1962 to March 31, 1963, presented at the re-cent meeting of Nebo School District board of education, showed estimated revenue of $4,140,388 with $2,791,402.80 received todate and an esti-mated balance due of 1,384, 935.20. The board also accepted a bid by Butterfield Motor Co., of Riverton, for a school bus with Superior body. It was also decided to call for bids on a lunchroom addi-tion to the Santaquin School to be submitted to the clerk of the board on or before May 7. Supt. Russell N. Stansfield presented the school calendar for the 1963-6- 4 school year, showing principals' meetings scheduled for August, 23; reg-istration for secondary and el-ementary schools on August 26; and special meetings and building faculty meetings on August 27. Crandall, President Clarence J. Wendel Clerk-Treasur- er Published in the Springville Herald April 18 and 25, 1963. Homes remodeled with alum-inum are easier to live in, eas-ier to rent and sell, easier to insure and mortage. They cost less to heat and cool. And, perhaps the biggest plus of all, they're safer. For aluminum is and, of course, fireproof. In houses going up today, dozens of aluminum products are used. Savings stamps contest set in focal schools A contest has been an-nounced for elementary schools in Utah County to encourage students to enroll in the Stamp program. It begins immediate-ly and continues until the close of school. According to Sterling Price, chairman of Utah County, bond and stamp sales, a" beau-tiful oil painting, 24 by 26 in-ches, by a National academy artist, is being offered to the school whose students save the largest amount of stamps from now until the close of school. Also to the school principal who puts forth the best efforts to stimulate interest among students in the saving stamp project, a lovely copy of Goyi's "The Dancers," will be given. Not only are the prizes well worth working for, said Mr. Price, but the habit of saving money for stamps each week, instills in the student a desire to conserve and save for the future. The program has been initi-ated by the government to help young people feel that by saving for stamps, they are helping their country and themselves. Most trees require periodi-cal pruning in oredr to keep their shape. Dead limbs and branches also need to be re-moved. Small trees that can be reached by standing on the ground, or possibly on a step-ladde- r, may be pruned safely by the home owner. Pruning of large trees is dangerous, however, and is not recom-mended. Call in a local tree expert. A reliable tree expert always will have insurance that protects his employees while working on your prop-erty.
