Show Letter to the editor Taxpayer asks about civic center site It amazes me to read in the Springville Herald nearly every week, where the City Development group has met to study Civic Center plans. These are the words that we usually read: "No decision has been reached as to the definite site for the Civic Center." I understand through rumors that the group is trying to buy property. What about property the city already owns? Are we going to have another white elephant out of the present city office building build-ing and other property the city owns? As a tax payer and a citizen, citi-zen, I think the proper place for the Civic Center is where the present city office is now located. If not there, what about the property the city owns across main street which runs south from the Center Service Station to the barber shop and from main street on the west to the creek on the east. If the city officials and other groups don't stop imposing im-posing restrictions and raising-taxes raising-taxes on people of Springville, our business district will be smaller that it is at present. It's smaller now than it was twenty years ago. I doubt that groups have the right to impose unnecessary unneces-sary taxes on citizens of a community without a vote of the people. This is a free country and we still have the right to express ex-press our views. I urge everyone every-one to voice their opinions. BILL RUFF |
