Regional Softball tournament to open at Spanish Region eight senior M Men i played at the Spanish Fork ball park beginning next Wed-nesday, August 8 with the win-ner representing the region at the finals in Salt Lake City. - A special feature of the tour nament will be the introduc- - ion of the slow pitch version of softball as introduced and played in many stakes for the first time this year. This type of pitching creates more spec-tator interest in that the em-phasis is put on the batter and he fielding! The one game to be played will be between Spanish Fork Stake and Nebo Stake with the winner to go into the finals also. Pairings for the opening round have been set up under the direction of Region Su-pervisor Gordon Smith, assist- - ed by Louis Clegg of Maple-to- n. 6 p.m. Palmyra first place will play Kolob's win-ner (probably the Sixth ward); 7:15 Spanish Fork first place vs Deseret first place; 8:30 p.m. Springville first place vs Santaquin-Tinti- c first place; 9:45 p.m. winner of the playoff between Kolob sec-ond place team and Palmyra second place team vs Millard stake. The tournament will continue Thursday and Friday when the champion will be crowned. To add a bit of spice to the evening's games, the mothers of Pony league players took over on the officiating, score keeping, announcing, and man-aging the four teams. A large crowd was highly entertained by the mothers and their ball players. Ruth Boyei was particularly entertaining as the- umpire along with the other officials and announcers Don't try for endurance re-cords on the highway.
