While they were here they attended the farewell services held Sunday Sun-day evening in the Mapleton ward for Mary Ellen Edmunds who will leave soon for a mission mis-sion with headquarters at Hong Kong. Mapleton Second Ward won most of the prizes for floats in the miniature parade on the Twenty Fourth of July. Theme of the parade was "The Spirit of 47." The Second Ward float made by the Primary "Miracle "Mir-acle of the Gulls," won first place with the Second Ward Mutual's "Spirit of '47 Covered Wagon" taking second place. The Mapleton Riding Club took first place in the Commercial Com-mercial division and the fire department second. The Elders Quorum of the Second Ward with its float "LDS Leads Way to Peace' 'won first in the religious reli-gious division and the Second Ward Sunday School entry was second. Judges for the parade were Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Fillmore. All proceeds of the celebration will go toward the LDS ward remodeling project. Highlights of the July activities acti-vities of the Mapleton Jaycees was their meeting July 12, when Lynn Jones and Vaughn Frandson gave a fine program on forestry. They showed an enlightening film on fire-fighting, and pointed out many phases of fire safety in the fry on the city park under the supervision of Neno Antineno, Rodger Hutchings, Richard Sel-man Sel-man and Douglas Brown. The August meetings will be held on the 9th and the 23rd of the month, will be Dutch Diamond, Richard S e 1 m a n, Ted Elder and George Leifson. The annual Fish Lake trip is planned for the 18th of August. Work projects for the month of August will be moving mov-ing the playground equipment to the Park and fencing the swimming pool. The Beehives and Knouts of forest. A county Jaycee meeting was held July 17 at Orem. George Leifson and Lee Robertson Rob-ertson were in attendance representing rep-resenting the Mapleton Club. After the regular business was conducted, the annual steak fry was planned by committees from each club. It will be held at Cherry Park in Hobble Creek Canyon on August 25. This will be for all Jaycee clubs in the county. On July 21 the Mapleton Jaycees held their annual steak both Mapleton wards held a supper and games at the city park recently. Weekend visitors in Mapleton Maple-ton were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Parry and children of Layton who visited with their parents, Mrs. Martha Houtz and with Mr. and Mrs. John Parry. Phil and Wanda Hathaway and family have moved to Boise, Idaho to make their home and where he will operate oper-ate a cafe. Mrs. Barbara Murray Mur-ray motored to Idaho with them to help them get settled. Mr. and Mrs. Benn Rogers have enjoyed a visit from his sister, Mrs. Ada Cunningham and family from Mesa, Arizona. Ari-zona. Visiting with them this week will be his brother Locy Rogers and his wife and family, fam-ily, also from Mesa. Spending two weeks in Utah visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Holley of Mapleton and with Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Dar-win Taylor of Spanish Fork are Dr. and Mrs. Robert Holley Hol-ley and their 4 children of Yuba City, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Finlinson of Oak City spent the weekend in Mapleton visiting with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Shipley and family. |
