SPRINGVILLE INSURANCE & REALTY COMPANY 154 South Main Street Springville, Utah Phone 489-5677 COMMENT BY KEN METCALF HALLOWEEN All Hallows' Evening, the nighi before All Saints' Day, was once believed to be a time when witches wit-ches end the ir';ww:w,rewwTw'flws ghosts were , t j most likely to . I be out, wan- fc J dering in the r- night. That's H J why they're 1 still likely to j be found a- I . I broad on this f m"" . I October 31st ' . . . witches I "S I and goblins, , . , -J pirates and skeletons ... all a bit on the small side these days. The trouble with some of our ancestors of a few centuries ago was that they took witches seriously ser-iously . . . condemning innocent people on superstition and unsupported un-supported accusations. The term "witch hunt" comes down from that time, with the meaning of wildly accusing someone without evidence, or trying to find a scrapegoat for a crime that never happened. Witches and broomsticks are fun for the small fry on Halloween. Hallow-een. It's up to us adults to make sure that we don't start thinking ; they're abroad through the rest of the year, so our young goblins can grow up in a world where witch hunts are permanently out of style . . .
