His I ife and children are visiting with relatives in Texas while he is away. Mr. and Mrs. Vance Gividen attended the graduation exer-cises in which their son Bert participated in Oregon where he has been studying on a scholarship. He received his master's degree in education and plans to teach in River-side, Calif., next school year. Vance and his wife enjoyed some deep sea fishing while in Oregon with Bert and his fam-ily. Mrs. Gladys Parry was hos-tess to the members of the Busy Fingers Sewing Club at her home last Tuesday where the time was spent in quilting. A tasty lunch was served at noon to nine guests including two guests, Mrs. Edna James and Mrs. Mary Monk of Span-ish Fork. Miss Lillian Tew, who is a student at the BYU, spent Sunday at the home of her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. S. LaVell Bird. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bird Tew of Idaho. Gordon Beardall left for the Mission Home in Salt Lake City Monday morning prior to his leaving for a LDS mission to Northern England. Farewell services were given for him Sunday evening in the Maple-to- n ward chapel. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bird Beardall. New officers were chosen for the coming year for the Needle Craft Club at their last meet-ing. Mrs. Eva Bird was hos-tess to eighteen members who leader in summer Softball ac-tivities. Beginning this week Mutual will begin at 8 p.m. on Tuesday instead of 7:30. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Hjorth and family have returned from a pleasant five days of fishing at Fish Lake. Weekend visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Preston Hoop-er have been Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hooper and son and Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Payne and three children all of Ogden. enjoyed a book revue given by Mrs. Mae Huntington of Springville. She reviewed the Life of Edgar A. Guest. Mrs. Norma Woolsey will be the new president, with Mrs. Jennie Tew vice president and Mrs. Lora Bird, secretary and treasurer. Out-goin- g officers are Mrs. Harriet Nielson, Amanda Binks and Eva Bird. Hostesses who helped Mrs. Bird were Millie Bird, Marva Whiting and Harriet Neilson. Mrs. Rhea Williams has been sustained as the new work leader in the Mapleton ward Relief Society. She succeeds Mrs. Gen Allan who has been released. New officers were sustained Sunday in the Mapleton Sec-ond ward YWMIA. Mrs. Perry Harrison was named president with Mrs. Lynn Bjarnson and Mrs. Duane Rowberry coun-selors. Released were Mrs. Juan Whiting and Mrs. Grant Hall. Mrs. Rowberry was retained. Mrs. John Spencer is the girl's Myron, 13 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Reed Bennett, has returned home from the hospital where he underwent foot surgery. He will be on crutches for several weeks. Mrs. Louise Wiscombe of Pleasant Grove has been a re-cent visitor at the home of her son Keith Wiscombe and fam-ily. Iris, ar old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Robinson, is convalescing from an eye operation. Mayor and Mrs. Welby War-ren were in Logan Friday to attend the graduation exercises of their son Darrell who re-ceived his degree in education. She was chosen to represent all MS patients in Utah by the Utah Chapter of The National Multi-ple Sclerosis Society and will represent Utah in the National con-test. With her are her husband, Edward and their children, Marriden, 8, Stuart, 2, and Steven, 10. Spanish Fork Woman Is Sclerosis Mother of f61 CONFINED TO WHEELCHAIR j A Spanish Fork mother of three has been named as ' Utah's candidate for the National Multiple Sclerosis Mother of the Year award, Jack Holmstrom, chairman of the society in Utah, has announced. Lela Rae White, ld wife of Edward White of Spanish Fork, will rep-resent Utah in the national contest to be held later this year. Mrs. White is paralyzed from the waist down and is confined to a wheelchair, a victim of multiple scler-osis for some two years. The couple has three children, Steven, 10, Mar-ride- n 8. and Stuart. 2. Mr. Holmstrom describ-ed Mrs. White as a "cheer-ful, responsive figure of indomitable courage. She has the ability to place the interests of others first and and has the willingness to make the necessary sacri-fices."
