The team is now competing in the district tournament in Blackfoot, Idaho and won their first game Tuesday by a lop-sided score of 15-- 1 over Lara-mie, Wyo., in a game that was called after the fifth inning because of the wide winning margin. In the other game played, Cedar City, whom Springville was scheduled to play Wed. at 7 p.m., downed Pocatello 14-- The tourney is an eight team meet, double elimination, with the winner to be crowned Sat-urday. A number of Springville people are seeing the event at Blackfoot this week. In winning the area tourna-ment here, the Springville club held their opponents to a mere 3 runs in their four games. They tallied 29 runs for an average of over 7 points per game. They competed against Provo Wasatch, Payson and Provo Timps. At the conclusion of the meet, Floyd Graves, tourna-ment chairman, was presented with a fishing pole and reel for an outstanding job. He expressed thanks to everyone who helped in the success of the tournament. Sage Creek WBBA baseball team defeated Hobble Creek 12-- 9 last Wednesday to win the Springville area District 3 championship and earn the right to play Tooele National at Tooele Friday Aug. 4 at 5 p.m. for a berth in the state tournament which is scheduled for Aug. 9, 10, 11, and 12 at the Tooele park. Leading Sage Creek to vic-tory over Hobble Creek was Don Conrad with a homer and double. Hal Larsen got a' double for Sage Creek. Larry Bringhurst and Allen Miner homered and Richard Johnson and Allen Livingston doubled In the consolation battle Mapleton defeated Spring Creek 8-- 3. Ronnie Christensen, who struck out nine batters in the five innings he worked, spelled the difference for the winners He and Bushman held Spring Creek to only three hits.
