Show Banker assists with plans for centennial Willard L. Eccles, senior vice president of the First Security Bank of Utah, N.A., Salt Lake City, and F. C. Packard, president' presi-dent' of the Springville Banking Bank-ing Company, have been named chairman and vice chairman, respectively, to head a Utah organization or-ganization among bankers for ne observance in 1963 of the Centennial of the National Banking System. The system initiated the dual system of federally and state-chartered commercial banks in the United Unit-ed States. Ben H. Wooten, the chairman of the board, The First National Bank in Dallas, is chairman of the Centennial Commission of the American Bankers Asociation, which is planning a nationwide observance observ-ance to be climaxed at the 1963 A.B.A. annual convention Mr. Eccles and Mr. Packard will assist in planning their state's participation in the centennial cen-tennial observance. During the next three years, an organized program will be carried on by the banks to in- elude such events as the observance ob-servance of Bank Week and a centennial celebration in 1963 saluting the Utah banks operating oper-ating under the oldest national and the oldest state bank charters. char-ters. A variety of other activities activ-ities is being planned aimed at educating the public in the importance im-portance of the dual system of privately owned and operated banks, insuring checks and balances bal-ances against abuses possible when authority over banking is centralized. The centennial commission of the American Bankers Association Associa-tion expects to produce and distribute dis-tribute a book on American banking during the next three years and to provide material on banking for use in public schools, colleges and libraries. |
