Show Purebred Hereford shipment arrives here from Oklahoma To Springville's economic development de-velopment is being added a new industry with announcement this week of the arrival of a herd of some 16 purebred Here-fords, Here-fords, purchased by Dr. C. W. Judd and sons at a cost of $11,975 from the Turner Ranch near Sulphur, Oklahoma. Ten of the animals are the daughters and granddaughters of the famous TR Zato Heir; four are heifer calves and two are bull calves. These plus the reserve champion bull purchased purchas-ed by the Judds from the biggest big-gest sale west of the Mississippi Missis-sippi at Red Bluffs, Calif., in 1959, brings the herd up to same 35 purebreds, all housed at the C. W. Judd and Sons Purebred Hereford Ranch west of town. Dr. and Mrs.' Judd and family fam-ily were guests at the Turner ranch during the "share the her" sale in which some 1,500 (Continued on page 9, col. 3) Purebred Herefords arrive from Oklahoma (Continued from Page One) breeders from across the country coun-try assembled. They returned home last week and the purebred pure-bred stock arrived two days later. Represented at the sale were 25 states which, according to report, paid an inspiring tribute trib-ute to the grand old sire of the breed by investing $420,000 in his progeny. Now 14 years old, his offspring off-spring sold by Turner Ranch, has returned more than two million dollarsl He has now been retired to spend his remaining re-maining days in Hereford Heaven Hea-ven and a bronze plaque is prepared pre-pared for his grave at Turner Ranch. Such honors are accorded the ancestors of the stock which has now found a home in this area and may well be the beginning be-ginning of a new industry in the area. Dr. Judd supervises the project pro-ject which is being operated by his son John, a graduate of high school this year while another an-other son Roger 8, assists. |
