Show City Hit by Wave of Bad Checks; Other Criminal Offences Handled Springville has been touched by the wave of bad checks, shop-lifting and other criminal activity, according to report from county and local police officers. Last week two 15-year-old boys were apprehended by a Springville store manager after af-ter they had taken a shirt from the store. Further investigation investiga-tion indicated the boys had taken ta-ken clothing and other items from at least three other stores in town. The boys were not needy boys as they had money to pay for their purchases in their pockets, police said. Officers reported also that numerous bad checks are being passed to merchants in Springville Spring-ville and other towns throughout through-out the county; that in many instances store clerks are not taking precautions and that they do not get enough information infor-mation on the individual writing writ-ing the checks for the officers to make any kind of investigation. investiga-tion. Officers are asking that closer clos-er observation and precautions be made of anyone who attempts at-tempts to cash a check or who writes a check. They should be known by the clerk or have sufficient identification, it is stated. Complaints have also been received by the county sheriff's office and city police on attempts at-tempts being made by fellows to get young girls into cars by offering them candy. Parents are being asked to warn their youngsters on the danger of such acts and caution them to get a description of the car and report immediately to the police. po-lice.
