Wedding Ceremony Set Aug. 21 By Springville Man, Payson Girl Charming Miss Vallejo Balzly, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Balzly of Payson and Earl Beardall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oran L. Beardall of this city have circled August 21 as their wedding day. The bride-to-b- e attended Payson High School and is now employed in Provo. Mr. Beardall is a former student of the Springville High School and served four years in the U. S. Navy. He is presently employed in Orem. Husbands Invited To Summer Party The patio at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Martindale was the setting for a delightful summer party for members of the Entre Nous Club and their husbands Thursday evening. Visiting and supper served buffet style from a long table and out-do- grill were enjoyed by the following: Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Cher-ringto- n, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sanford, Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Class of 1949 Reunion Friday High School class of 1959 is holding its first reunion Friday evening at Kelly's Grove. Ralph Snelson will be master of cer-emonies at a dinner beginning at 7:30 p.m. Ann Robertson has had charge of reservations and Marie Hamilton, the pro-gram. Word has been received from quite a number of class mem-bers that they will be here for the occasion including Carol Eve Fullmer Miner who is com-ing from California; Maxine R. Conk and Elner H. Thorn, enjoyed a vacation for the past week with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John D. Shepherd at Le-va- Mr. and Mrs. Robert Men-denha- ll of Las Vegas, Nev., and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Whit-ing of Winnemucca, Nev., came to Utah to attend the funeral services Saturday for Paul Black of Orem, victim of a plane accident last week west of Springville. Mrs. Irene Strong has return-ed to her home in Springville after several weeks visiting with her children. She spent six weeks in Boulder, Nev., with a son, Guy Strong and family, and two weeks in San Diego, Calif., with a daughter and a son-in-la- Mr. and Mrs. Jos-eph Keyser and family. Mr. and Mrs. Blaine L. Bar-ker and family spent several days the past week touring Zions and Bryce canyons in southern Utah. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Lynn in company with Mr. and Mrs. Croft Larsen of Provo have been guests at a Metropolitan Insurance convention held at Vancouver, B.C., the past week. Miss Elaine Barton, whose marriage to Arnold Brown of this city will be an event of August 5, in the Logan Temple. Elaine Barton and Arnold Brown Plan Temple Wedding in August A mid-summ- er wedding date has been set by Miss Elaine Barton, attractive young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Barton and Arnold W. Brown, son of Mrs. Eugene Wood, all of Springville. The ceremony is to take place August 5, in the Logan LDS Temple and the following evening a wedding recep-tion in the Third-Nint- h Ward will honor the couple. The bride-ele- ct graduated from high school and sem-inary and Arnold recently completed service with the army, a portion of which was spent in Germany. They expect to make their home in Springville. Jaycee Families Enjoy Outing Approximately 20 from the Jaycee and jZl Wives groups took their fam ilies on an outing at Balsam Park, Hobble Creek Canyon Saturday. Calif., and Richard L. Clark of Panorama City, are Visiting relatives and friends in Springville this week before leaving Saturday night on an LDS mission to Argentina. They were house guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Russen Bird. daughter and son-in-la- w the past several days. Gary Swenson, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Swenson, is home from Roosevelt where he spent a vacation with friends. The Swensons recently moved here from Roosevelt. yjeu6 Foted . . . Miss Cynthia Seaville and Miss Hazel Rowe of Auckland, New Zealand, were in Spring-ville four days of this week, guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harri-son Conover and family. The girls, 17 and 21 respectively, are on a three-mont- vacation tour of the South Sea Islands and the United States planning to visit Chicago, New York City, Washington, D.C. and sev-eral other cities enroute. They came by way of Samoa and the Hawaiian Islands and will re-turn to their native land by ivay of the Tahitian Islands. Mrs. Beulah Whiting enter-tained at breakfast at her home Thursday morning of last week for Mr. and Mrs. Vern Bird visiting here from Los Angeles, Calif. Other guests included Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sanford, Mrs. Mary Oakes and Arlene Men-denha- ll of Springville. Gam G. Campbell, radarman first class, USN, son of Mrs. Margaret Campbell of 325 W. First N., Springville, and hus-band of the former Miss Boneta D. Hansen of Provo, is serving aboard the radar picket vessel USS Joyce operating out of Peaz-- Harbor, Hawaii. The Joyce, part of the Pacific Fleet Cruiser Force, is a unit of the early warning barrier system and is equipped with the latest electronic gear. Ships of this type form the nucleus of the early warning defense system and patrol the area from Hawaii to Alaska. Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Gore have had a number of relatives visit-ing them the past week from their native state of Georgia. There were Mrs. J. M. Gore of Camilla, Ga. and Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Gore and children Dean, Richard and Kathy of Albany, Ga. During their stay the Gore family arranged a reunion with approximately 75 members of their family gathering at the GRA Park in Provo. The visi-tors were also taken on sight-seeing trips about Salt Lake City and other parts of the state. It had been 36 years since they had seen some mem-bers of the family here in Utah. A number of Springville peo-ple were in Fairview last week to attend the Black Hawk cele-bration, some stying through the week and others for a day or so. Mrs. Malinda Sumsion in company with Mrs. Helga Larson, Lula Mendenhall and Rea Straw attended the cele-bration Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. George Hales and little son have arrived in Springville to spend the sum-mer months from Cincinnati, Ohio, where George is enrolled in medical school. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hume (Marcilla Jensen) and children visited recently in Springville with Mrs. Hume's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence L. Jensen They have been living at Riv-erside, Calif.,, and have now moved to Riverside, Utah, where Mr. Hume is employed. Miss Marian Haymond, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Haymond, has been visiting in California with her sister Paula and Keith Myers and children at San Diego. Several Springville people have . returned to their, homes here from a most enjoyable two weeks tour of Mexico. Included in the group were Mrs. Mary Smart, Mrs. Blanch Beal, Mrs. Edna Smart, Mrs. Jay Smart, Mrs. Nellie Burt and Mrs. Thora Dalley. They went with a group of thirty people in a chartered bus leaving El Paso and then traveling with a Mex-ican guide as far south as Mex-ico City. From there they took many interesting tours to the pyramids, the university, mus-eum and other places including side trips to the pottery and basket weaving centers and markets. They returned home by way of the west coast route. Mrs. George Roylance accom-panied by her daughter Karen and son Orville and Kathleen Russel spent three days last week at Zion, Bryce and Grand Canyons. Orville remained at Grand Canyon where he will be employed this summer. Mr. and Mrs. Orval A. Mor-gan and three children, Dan, Ray and Brenda returned Mon-day from a delightful week's vacation to the West Coast. They went by way of Reno, Nev., and stopped at Susanville to visit a sister of Mrs. Mor-gan. They spent a few days in Sacramento with another sister and also visited relatives in Walnut Creek. From there they went to San Francisco where they toured many places of tourist attraction. Mrs. W. G. Carter has been Visiting in California with a Boosters Elect Honor Members Climaxing the initiation of new members into the Boosters Club was the election of new oficers at the final initiation party Thursday evening of last week at the home of Maryan Haymond. Kathleen Russell was elected president; Karen Haymond, as vice president; Suzie Strong, secretary and Judy Tipton, re-porter. Tuesday evening all the new members were welcomed into the club with a formal tea in the garden at the home of Kar-en Oldroyd. Guests, all new members, included Diane Alle-ma- n, Barbara Bird, Mary Jane Bird, Janet Bona, Diane Boyer, Linda Child, Susan Friel, Sus-an Harmer, Pat Ollerton, Gloria Peterson, Juanita Stewart, Lin-da Wightman, Ruth Wentz and Patsy Whitney. Forty years ago it took 100 horsepower to keep a plane in the air. Today it takes 250 horsepower to carry a 115-pou-female to the corner grocery. Industrial Press Service. |
