Jordan led the Devils to a scoring spree in the third per-iod as the Devils maintained a narrow lead 34-3- 3 before get-ting into the final period. Mathiesen of West dunked 21 counters through and play-ed a terrific floor game while Springville's team looking brilliant in spots came up with good performances by Black with 15 points, Jordan with 12, Smith with 8 and Al-v- ie with 7. Springville's bank-boar- d work and ball rustling by Smith and Alvie, kept the game a thriller. West was ex-hibiting some of the finest ball handling seen here and employed a sticky defense on the Devils which caused them to lose many points through bad passes. Alvey had dunked in a ringer to give the Devils a 39-3- 5 lead and Wests mighty Mathiesen slipped in a quick two-point- er to narrow it down to 39-3- 7 when Spring-ville's George Black came to life to sail in for a tip-i- n and then take a fast one for a setup to give the Devils a 43-3- 8 lead. West's high scorer sank another basket and then Craig Smith made two tosses and Hjorth laid one in for the final 47-4- 0 tally. The game started out . with George Black sinking a foul shot and throughout most of the quarter, both teams were exhibiting their better defen-sive brand of ball. West led 3-- 1 before Alvey hit a foul shot and Jordan dunked a basket to give the Devils a 4-- 3 margin. Smith hit and West scored again to tie it up at 5-- 5 before Black put the Dev-ils out in front at 6-- 5 at the quarter. The defensive battle carried on in the second quar-ter with the lead changing hands until Jordan came thru with a basket and a layup and Scb Kolob st,t January n Mapleton Second vs& Jr- - m m; January H Twelfth vs First Eleventh vs Seen, V Mapleton 2nd SI-I-S Red Devils Start litle Defense Against Payson Here Friday Night Region 5 Teams Promise Plenty Of Action, Thrills for Hoop Fans Region 5 basketball teams have hung up their pre-seas- on record and whether a team has won every game or lost most of them doesn't slower Red Devils.
