Show TROUBLE OVER TOWN LOTS Legislation Will Bo Needed to Right Matters in Indian Territory Town Sites Muskogee I TThere are 115 towns in Indian territory In which tho government has not yet completed com-pleted the sale of town lots Tho first towns that were appraised and the lots sold under government supervision supervi-sion aro now making final settlement and every day the Indian agent sends out hundreds of notices to the principal prin-cipal chiefs that final payment has been made on Iota in the various towns Some peculiar conditions have arisen and without relief legislation the government will never be able to close the townslto business In some of tho towns there are lots which are not worth tho appraised value and they have never boon sold as tho government cannot accept less than tho appraised value There will havo to be legislation allowing authority to make disposition of such property Again there aro hundreds of instances in-stances where purchasers havo made payments in lots but have not mado the final payment The deeds cannot bo issued until the final payment is mado These payments must not run over GO days past duo and ten percent per-cent Interest is charged but them is no way to enforce the payment of tho Interest or the last payments either if the purchaser wants to let the property prop-erty drop In such cases the property reverts to the tribe and there it stands They are found in everyone every-one of tho 300 government towns In the territory It Is believed by the townslto department of the Indian agency that such relief will bo provided pro-vided In the Indian appropriation bill this session of congress |
