Show A Letter From the Philippines The following letter was received from Alma Beck who has spent two years in the Philippine Islands After testing the Orient more than two years I still like the climate and the nice sea breezes The East like the West has its disadvantages but also has its advantages I I have been transferred from my old station to a much larger and more important I im-portant station on the next to the large eat island in the Philippines Mindanao Surigao is the capital of the Province of Surigao and it is noted for its beautiful woods Mahogany one piece table tops six feet in diameter are not f scarce ebony and tindalo and many other beautiful woods arc plentiful so you see it is encouraging to the woodworkers wood-workers Wo have a large high school herewith here-with eight American teachers We also al-so have a large well equipped Trade School of which I am Principal Education i Edu-cation spreading very r rupldly bejrt t but it takes u long time to modernize savages After all I would like to be back in old Yankee Fork for a short season atleast G I Alma Beck i |
