Show Inspection Work at Spanish Fork James R Garfield secretary of the interior was at the mouth of Spanish Fork canyon yesterday to study the progress that has been made on the government reclaimation works This work is now being pressed to completion comple-tion tionWhen the secretary of the Interior reached Salt Lake yesterday morning he was met at the train by Senator George Sutherland Governor John C Cutler and Thomas Hull who accompan ed him to Provo Assistant General Passenger Agent F A Wadleigh of of the Rio Grande also joined the party At Provo Mr Garfield and his party were met by state engineer Caleb Tanner Tan-ner Mr Lytel the engineer in charge of tho government project Postmaster James Clove State Senator Henry Gardner and others Carriges were used to take the members mem-bers of the party out to the concrete dam which is being built to divert the water from Spanish Fork canyon into the head of the government canal A portion of the canal was also impeded but Mr Garfield did not go over the en tire work because of lack of time The Strawberry valley project will reclaim about 60000 acres of land No work has been done in the main tunnel for nearly a year but work will be resumed umed within n short time on the completion com-pletion of the power plant now under construction which will furnish power for the electric drills in the tunnel |
