Show = July 24th is Honored Pioneer day was celebrated in a very I appropriate manner on Friday last A fine program was rendered which began and the by firing cannon at daybreak hoisting of flags at sunrise At 930 oclock the people began to gather at the City pavilion which wasbeautiftlly decorated with flags and bunting The congregation was called to order 1030 by Fredrick Lewis who was master of ceremonies The Spanish Fork Silver Band rendered a fine selec which was followed by prayer by Chaplain Chap-lain August Swensen The congrega tion rose and sang 0 Ye Mountains HIgh led by Nicholas Smith The address of welcome which was short and to the point was delivered by J A Martell Miss Ethel Morgan rendered a very beautiful solo entitled titled When the Evening Breeze is Sighing Home Sweet Home after which Miss Rosetta Hansen delivered an address on early pioneer life of the Utah people Miss Hansons address was of fine quality showing her to be mistress of the subject Music by the band Hon W E Rydalch of Provo delivered the oration which was a masterly effort well worthy the speaker speak-er and the occasion The gentleman has a very superior ability for memor zing historical events which is seldom equaled and never excelled He was often interrupted by round after round of applause as he was speaking Miss Bliss Lewis spoke a fine recitation which was followed by music by the band Benediction by the chaplain closed the forenoon exercises The afternoon was devoted to outdoor I out-door sports such as old mens races young mens races ladies races girls races and boys races the winner in every case getting I a prize The day passed without accident or misshap to mar the pleasure of the occasion GAH |
