Show OUTLINE PLANS FDR COMMERCIAL LEAGUE Four-team Circuit Appears Likely; Lehi Defeats Fraternity Five. Representatives were few at the meeting meet-ing of the City Commercial Basketball league last evening, but a general outline out-line of the season's work was decided upon. Bill Maughan, president, presided. A four-team league, whereby each quint can play every other twice, was decided upon, making the season of six weeks' duration. Thursday will be the night of play, and the opening battles will probably prob-ably be staged January 9 on the Deseret gymnasium floor. An excessive number of fives, necessitating necessi-tating continuous ball for several hours, in former years robbed the league of real interest. Also, numerous teams of little experience were entered, rendering the competition one sided. From the number of fives applying for entrance, the officials should be able to select four fives that will furnish better bet-ter competition. Gien Smith will lead the Western Eiectric five and has signed up a large number of former high school stars, such as Ernie Fallentine, L,olo Spencer, Ren Clawson. Kingsley Claw-son Claw-son and Denny Ausherman. Tommy KHz pa trick is expected to captain cap-tain the university alumni, with Roy Mc-Intyre, Mc-Intyre, Homer Warner. Happy Van Pelt, Ott Romney and a hose of other varsity men on the squad. The Deseret gymnasium will also enter a team. Joe Smith has announced his j retirement, but with Leo Eager, Pete Romney, Nelson Norgren. Hobby Rich- : ardson and Raldy Latimer entered the i gymnasium should be well represented. I The Pantages. the Western Optical and the deaf mutes' alumni have also made! application. The Ogden school has a , number of graduates who are working in the city. The number of men who will be al- j lowed on each five will be limited to seven or eitzht this year, so as not to j allow any five to monopolize the field I of players. |
