Show ' ! Seeks Proof of Prehistoric Bridge Land BUENOS AIRES, Dec. 26. Details De-tails of a "lost continent" in I the Pacific ocean, a 6000-mile his- 1 teric "bridge" of land between South America and Hawaii, long submerged, is being sought by an American scientist, William Alan-:on Alan-:on Bryan, professor of zoology and g:olcgy in the College of Hawaii, who left Honolulu last June on his remarkable quest. Dr. Bryan, who camo to Argentina Argen-tina by way of Mexico and the 1 west coast of South America, where 113 studied volcano and Andean i geology, is about to return to Valparaiso, Valpa-raiso, where he will board a ship for the little island of Juan Fernandez, Fer-nandez, 400 miles out. The island ' is inhabited by a s.nall colony oi f.'shermen and their families. "In the Ihiladelphia Academy j of Natural Science, ' ' said the pro- j f'sscr, "I was surprised a year ago to discover certain little fresh wa- tr molluscs from Juau Fernandez i that were extraordinarily similar to .ertain molluscs in Hawaii. So 1 ; dcter.iiined to visit the island, study J those shells and its entire flora and ! fauna." ; If the Juan Fernandez molluscs should prove to be closely allied ! with those of Hawaii, Dr. Bryan ! explained in an address here, it ! would prove that laud connection ; had existed, as the species must have traveled from Juan Fernandez to Hawaii, or vice versa, by the livers of the prehistoric continent. 1 . j i |
