Show FREAK OIL STREAM FLOMMll Contains Neither Gasoline Nor Kerosene, but Makes Lubricating Oil. Uintah county probably can boast as many wonders of nature as any other region of Its size. In the -world. One peculiarity pe-culiarity of its mineral deposits Is the property of the Urado OH company, four miles from Dragon. Out of a tunnel that has only a slight grade as It enters the hill flows a stream of oil of a capacity of fifteen barrels per day, states F. E. Hlgglns, who has charge of the company's com-pany's local interests. This oil, termed a "freak" oil. because It contains no gasoline or kerosene, when refined produces pro-duces lubricating oil. Several years John T. Pope, at present president of the company and in charge of operations at Dragon, was prospecting prospect-ing for oil. A well was drilled 600 feet deep at a place about 1000 feet higher than the shaft from which the oil is (lowing (low-ing at present. Oil was struck to some degree throughout a greater part of depth of the well. It is said. However, the companv decided that better results could be gained by tunneling into the 1,111 where the oil was seen oozing out. The tunnel was besrun, and the face is now S00 feet from ihe portal. A flow greater than fifteen barrels of oil per day is e-vpected whenever the tunnel is bored farther. At present, operations of the company are somewhat handicapped by a lack, of tanks for storage. For that reason, rea-son, until more tanks are secured, the refinery at the well is only working at half capacity, says Mr. Hlgglns. Plans are being made to secure sufficient suffi-cient storage capacity at once, and then the work on the tunnel will be again undertaken. The refined product has been shipped to this city for further treatment, treat-ment, and has found a ready market, it is said. As a lubricating oil It Is said to be valuable, because It leaves no residue. resi-due. It is also being used to replace linseed lin-seed oil in paint and for sheep-branding paint. |
