Show TROOPS ORDERED TO PREPARE FOR STRIKE RIOT DUTY LOUISVILLE, Ky., Oct. 24. Orders have been received at Camp Zachary Taylor from the war department, it was learned today, to hold four provisional battalions of infantry and machine gunners gun-ners of the famous First division ready for riot and strike duty. Colonel Peabody, chief of staff, is quoted as having said no actual entraining entrain-ing order had been received, but the order to hold the troops in readiness Indicated In-dicated that the battalions might be sent to West Virginia and Pennsylvania. WASHINGTON, Oct. 24. War department depart-ment officials said today they had sent no orders to Camp Taylor, Louisville, Ky., for the holding of troops there in readiness for riot and strike duty. It was suggested that if any orders had been received at the camp they were issued by Major -General Wood, comman-ing comman-ing the central department with headquarters head-quarters at Chicago. CHICAGO, Oct. 24. The order, received re-ceived by authorities in charge of Camp Taylor to hold troops in readiness for strike or riot duty, was from the office of Major-General Wood, according to a clerk in the office of the chief of staff here today. |
