"The league of nations will succeed ultimately when the peoples of the countries coun-tries of the world are able to understand one another's traditions, racial characteristics character-istics and business ethics," said Estes Snedecor, chairman of the resolutions committee of the International Rotary club, when he arrived at convention headquarters head-quarters from New York. Mr. Snedecor just recently returned from a four weeks' visit to twenty of the twenty-live Rotary clubs in the British Isles. Ho is a Ro-tarian Ro-tarian from Portland, Ore. "I found Rotary over there In fine shape, just commencing a new era of growth and expansion," Mr.- Snedecor said in regard to his visit to Kngland, Ireland, Scotland and Wales in the interests in-terests of better Rotarianism. "I feel that Rotary will perform a great international inter-national service by bringing about a better bet-ter understanding between the business and professional men of tho different countries. This organization will bring the representative business men of the world together on a common basis of friendship and ideals. It can also serve by bringing about higher standards of business ethics among the great industrial indus-trial leaders of the world." Mr. Snedeco. arrived In New York last week from Liverpool. He said he came across on a transport with a number of returning soldiers. As he landed at the docks, he declared, the people gazed at him, saying lie was the most modest hero yet to cross the waters, as he had thrown away his uniform and war crosses and taken up the civilian dress. Mr. Snedecor lost his right leg eighteen years ago in an accident, and was looked upon by the welcoming crowds at the crowded docks as a returning hero. He remarked that he did not disillusion them. "I am delighted to see these great Wasatch Wa-satch mountains," he declared, after he had strolled about the city for a few hours last night. "I have climbed Mount Hood twice since I was unfortunate enough to lose my leg, and I am hoping that 1 may have an opportunity to climb some of the Utah mountains. Mr. Snedecor Is a nominee for the position posi-tion of vice, president of the International Rotary club. He will deliver his report to the convention in session Friday afternoon, after-noon, together with the resume of his flndines in the British Isles. |
