Show ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN HYBRIDIZING WHEAT LOGAN", June IS. George Stewart, assistant as-sistant professor of agronomy at the Utah Agricultural college, returned Sunday Sun-day from a short trip to Nephi, where he went to assist In the work of hybridizing hybridiz-ing wheat which is now being carried on at the Nephi substation. The hybridiziner work is being executed under the direction of Aaron F. Bracken, superintendent of the Nephi substation, and Irving Jensen, assistant agronomist of the Utah experiment station, who are stationed at Nephi. Crosses of Turkey Red and Kofod wheat ore being made, with the view of getting a beardless wheat with Turkey Red characteristics. Other qualities, such as resistance to dryness, hardiness, etc., are looked for. According to Professor Stewart, the Utah experiment station will carry op similar work with about fifteen varieties, all for the purpose of obtaining J variety of wheat of ultra suitableness for Utah conditions. |
