WASHINGTON, June 4. No information informa-tion regarding the reported landing of American naval forces in Costa Rica has reached either the navy or state departments depart-ments and Secretary Daniels said today he doubted any landing had been made. If any men were aent ashore, they were sailors, ;is t he only marine detachment in the vicinity is the legation -guard in Nicaragua and officials said it could not be moved without specific authority from WashlnKton. The revolution in Costa Rica has been going nn for the last two months but has been attracting considerable attention in Central American countries for the past four weeks, forces said to have been recruited re-cruited from political exiles formed bands along the Nicaraguan frontier near Lake Nicaragua and advanced southward, clashing on several occasions with forces commanded by Joaquin Tlnoco, Costa HI-can HI-can minister of war. The fighting has been restricted almost entirely to the mountainous country near the .Nicaraguan border although the recent skirmishes further south have been reported. The situation is quite obscure, owing to the fact that reports from Costa Rica have been of a conflicting nature. Punta Arenas is a port on the Pacific coast of Costa Itica and is the Pacific terminus of the railroad extending across Costa Rica to Port Limon, which is the most important harbor n the Atlantic side of the country. |
