Show BINGHAM BOWS OUTJNPLAYOFF The basketball team carrying the Bingham high school banner into the Jordan district battles played its last game Tuesday, a snappy tilt with Murray, the smoothly-functioning quint stopping stop-ping the Miners 36-29, to advance one step more in their tourney post search. On two previous occasions oc-casions the Smeltermen had beaten Bingham, and the Murray combination clicked again, with Howard Wahlen, center, nicking the hoop for 17 counters. A few minutes of play saw the two teams tied at five-all, but I the quarter ended with Bingham lagging, 14-6. At the half the score stood 13-20, favor of Murray, Mur-ray, but in the third quarter Bingham had gained two points, leaving the score 23-18. For a few seconds in the final period Bingham and Murray were separated sep-arated by two points, 22 to 24. Murray then swung into action, and with accurate shooting and careful passing assured themselves themselv-es a comfortable lead, the outcome out-come being doubtful for but a few exciting minutes in the last quarter. Sergio Alvarez, junior, played a good floor game. Ernest Sheen, senior and Joe Badovinatz were two of the reasons Murray found a walkaway impossible. Frank Callen, senior and captain, gave a good performance at center in his final game for the Miners. Gordon Jensen, forward, was another an-other senior playing his last high school game. Frank Nelson, Stanley Stan-ley Long, Kenneth Davis all played a portion of the game, with creditable performances promising much for next year's Jordan district entry from B.H.S. At Grantsville Friday Callen led the Miners to a 47-43 victory over the long-range scoring Cowboys. Cow-boys. Eldon Anderson and Wayne Nelson scored 18 and 17 points, respectively, to take over shooting shoot-ing honors, but the Miners' team members had their points nicely divided, every player contributing contribut-ing two or more points to the total. Stanley Long and Gordon Jensen Jen-sen were outstanding in clever floor work and passing, Long also al-so sinking some sensational shots. Joe Badovinatz played one of his hardest games in sparking the Miners' attack. |
