Show Report Shows Only Six Cases of Contagious Disease Dis-ease Last Week. The number of cases of sickness reported re-ported to the city health department during dur-ing the month of July is exceedingly low as cpmpared with the same month lust year, according to information given out last night by Dr. Samuel G. Paul, city physician. In comparison with the contagious con-tagious diseases brought before the department de-partment last year, the rate stands four to twenty-eight cases of smallpox, two to five cases of diphtheria and four to fourteen four-teen cases of scarlet fever. Last week only six cases of contagious diseases were reported, according to Dr. Paul, as compared wun seven the week before.' Dr. Paul said the good health condition of the city whs the direct result of the educational campaigns which have been carried out through the free clinics which have been established. The important impor-tant work' which this department has been doing has resulted in the reporting of contagious diseases to the health officials, tho examination and treatment of children, chil-dren, the stimulation of interest in matters mat-ters of family health, according to Dr. Paul. During the month the nurses of the department de-partment made 118 visits to the homes, when 649 preschool examinations were made among children under fi years old. Kight dental cases were handled two for eye, ear. nose and throat trouble, ten prenatal pre-natal and twenty-five miscellaneous. Special attention was given to Instructing Instruct-ing them in tho feeding of babies, their dress, sleep and protection from disease. Although, only one prenatal clinic has been established, four cases were brought to the attention of the nurses in charge; Dr. Paul said this field was one of the most important and would he given more attention in tho near future. In the twenty-six baby clinics which are being operated under the direction of the city health department, 299 babies were measured, weighed and given thorough physical examinations for tho purpose of discovering slight defects. Dr. Paul said the'most encouraging factor fac-tor in the work was the fact that the mothers were taking an interest in the welfare of their children and that they.' were beginning to co-operate with the free clinics in the work of building up the youth of tho city physically. |
