Show CHICAGO CAR FARE INCREASE PROBABLE CHICAGO, Aug. 5. The state public utilities commission today took under advisement ad-visement the application of the Chicago surface lines and the Chicago elevated railways for Increased fares. The increases in-creases were opposed by counsel for the city, which has threatened to revoke franchises and take control of the lines. M.yor Thompson today asked Gover-i Gover-i or Lowden to make public the report made to him by the commission of that body's participation in the conferences preceding the settlement of the four-day strike last week. In the meantime the commission has authority to make emergency emer-gency rates pending decision on the application ap-plication and a 7-cent fare on the surface sur-face lines and a 7 or 8-cent fare on the elevated are expected to be ordered soon. |
