Show DETROIT INNOCENT, SAYS TIGER PREXY DETROIT, Aug. 5. President Frank Navtn of the Detroit Americans tonight denied that he had negotiated with the Boston club for Pitcher Carl Mays prior to Mays's recent suspension by President Ban Johnson of tho American league. Navin said he knew -of no negotiations between Manager Barrow of the Boston club and Manager Jennings of the Tigers. As for Jennings, he said, ho had no au-thorily au-thorily to bid for Mays's services. "When the Boston team was here last month," Mr. Navin said, "I told Manager Barrow I would like to have Mays, but for various reasons would make no offer for his release. I believe Mayn should be punished for jumping his team and that no club in the league should have tried to pry him away from Boston." Mr. Navin intimated that other teams might refuse to play with tho Yankees if they attempt to use Mays. |
