The first meeting: of the deans' eutin-eil eutin-eil of the University of Via) was held yesterday afternoon. A program for the ensuing year was fixed. President Presi-dent John A. Widtsoe outlined the poli.-y to be followed by the university this vear in an address to tiie deans. Illumination of the big blm'l; emblem of the university, located on the eastern foothills, was proposed. The plan outlined out-lined by its originator before tliem?cl-ir.jr tliem?cl-ir.jr would include the running of electrical elec-trical current up the hillside to the big and installing searchlights sufficient to illuminate the concrete surface so that it may be easily seen ir'om ail points in Salt Lake valley. According to costs presented, the scheme would involve the expenditure of only about SO0. No Action Taken. Xo action was taken upon the matter by the council at its session yesterday, but it was tentatively decided thatthe move, if accepted, will be a student body responsibility, and that the en-- en-- tire proposition will be placed before student body officials for subsequent presentation' to the entire student body for consideration. The advisability of illuminating the dorm )!. Park building by means of searchlights to be played on the building build-ing from different angles of the campus was also considered at the meeting. The type of building is especiaHy adapted for such a feature, since it is built of white stone, and lights could be located advantageously from the other buildings on the campus. The proposition was decided upon favorably, to be carried out after the university state fair exhibit has been arranged for. Professor T. 1 Eeynoids was appointed chairman of a committee to work out details of the plan. Ready for Registration. Professor Elbert D. Thomas said that everything w-as in readiness for registration, regis-tration, methods being well organized, faculty help assigned ar d equipment conveniently placed. Registration starts at the university- Thursday morning and ends Saturday afternoon of this week. The first faculty meeting will be held at the university at 1U:H0 o'clock this morning. Practically all of the faculty members have returned from vacations and have reported at the university. uni-versity. All are expected to be present at this morning's session. Members of the board of trustees of the university will hold a meeting at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon in the faculty fac-ulty room. President Widtsoe. also president of the board, will address the meeting. Wednesday morning at 9:30 o '(dock a meeting of the board of regents will be held in the John E. Park building. |
